My name is Michelle and I am based in Roscommon, the West of Ireland. I live and work from what once was my Granny’s cottage situated on the foothills of Sliabh Ban. I left my apartment in the bustling city of Manhattans’ East Village to return to the cottage approx. 10 years ago to live the dream. I now live that dream in the cottage, stitching handmade gifts and heirlooms and teaching adults and children how to stitch both hand and machine sewing, knitting and crochet.
My work is mostly focussed on machine embroidery and applique and as the name suggests, I do all the work. I start out with simple pencil sketches which become patterns and then eventually a finished piece. I like to think I make simple things beautiful and beautiful things simple as in beautiful to look at but also to make.
To say I love what I do is an understatement. I adore it. Every single stitch is created with such love and joy. I think about the recipients and hope that they love it as much as I have loved making it. When I’m teaching a class I find myself chattering on and on about notions and fabrics and have to stop myself as I am so eager to share my love and passion for sewing.
