Art residency in Hrisey, Iceland. The island, is by the north coast of Iceland, short from the arctic circle. It is surrounded with a breathtaking view of the mountains on the coast of Eyjafjordur and the atmosphere will put you back in time of peace and wonderful nature. Perfect inspiration for artists. The Old Schoolhouse has been decorated (facilitated) with four bedrooms and working area so individuals or groups can work their art. The Old Schoolhouse is centered in the small village, with a good view over the area, on the south coast of the island, ca. 10 min. walk from the harbor. Population about 100 persons. In Old Schoolhouse is everything you need for pleasant stay: four different bedrooms, working area, internet connection, sitting room combined with kitchen, shower, washing machine, etc.
About the island
The island is 7,0 km2 and 7,5 km long. The only way to get there is by the ferry Sævar from Árskógssandur. It’s scheduled every hour in the summertime (different winter schedule) and takes ca. 15 min. There is a bus from Akureyri to Árskógssandur (ca. 30 min. drive). Service in the village of Hrísey: restaurant, shop, post office and swimming pool with natural hot spring water. Easy access to beautiful nature, bird watching and walking trails around the island.
