Exploring creativity in Northern Ireland

Under a creative momentum project, Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has launched a smartphone app called Creative Trails Northern Ireland. The scope of this new app is to connect creative businesses with tourists and visitors to Northern Ireland.

Since the businesses who feature on the app are also featuring on MyCreativeEdge.eu, we had to check it out! Using the Play Store on our Android phones, we were able to download the app quite easily. When we launched it, we were asked whether we would like to access a Creative Trail in Co. Down or the one in Co. Armagh. We decided to download the content for Co. Armagh, but were also give the option to ‘download later’ and work offline.

We immediately took a tour of the Trail, which we loved. The Trail in Co. Armagh includes 11 creative enterprises dealing with pottery, arts, photography, jewellery and more. We were able to find information on each enterprise, locate the businesses on a map and build our own itinerary by clicking on the ‘star’ symbol.

The ‘itinerary builder’ allowed us to go back to our ‘favourites’ and get a sense of the overall tour. Some of the pictures in the ‘image gallery’ are truly stunning and, to take a picture ourselves, we did not have to exit the app – we simply clicked on ‘menu’>camera app!

A similar app is available for North East Iceland. It also includes 2 Trails – one for museum buffs and the other for people who are interested in visiting creative businesses. Check it out and let us know what you think!
