In Akureyri, the countdown to Christmas started on 28 November. Advent is marked by many different Christmas-themed events including concerts, art exhibitions, readings, theatre shows, and markets.
But two very interesting Christmas markets are already over: The Art and Handcraft Market in Deiglan ran from 27 to 29 November and the Art Market in Kaktus took place from 4 to 6 December.
Both locals and tourists attend Advent events, which represent a way of getting fully immersed in the Icelandic Christmas season.
