International Fibre Arts Festival in Co Roscommon

Internationally renowned fibre artists will descend on Co Roscommon next week!

The International Fibre Arts Festival is taking place over the May bank holiday weekend at various venues across Co Roscommon in the West of Ireland.  Organised locally by renowned tapestry artist Frances Crowe, the Festival will welcome fibre artists from across Ireland, Scotland and Europe. With two major exhibitions continuing throughout the month of May, there will be plenty of opportunities to see the work of tapestry artists from across the world.

On Thursday 3 May, the Interconnections 2 Exhibition opens in the fabulous historic venue of King House in Boyle at 7pm. This exhibition is the second collaboration between Scottish and Irish Fine Art Weavers.

Curators Frances Crowe and Joan Baxter will showcase their work alongside John Brennan, Elizabeth Radcliffe, Amanda Gizzi, Terry Dunne, Angela Forte and Mary Cuthbert.

The exhibition runs from 3 May until 24 May, during King House opening hours. This is a great opportunity to see the work of some of Ireland and Scotland’s leading fibre artists.

Then on Friday 4 May the amazing international Textile Installation (Fate, Destiny and Self Determination) curated by Line Dufour will open in Áras an Chontae, Roscommon Town at 7pm. Supported by Roscommon County Council.

Currently, 420 people from 37 countries have sent 703 submissions to this truly awe-inspiring international installation. The installation will be open during County Council office hours until 24 May.

Other events during the Festival include the Tapestry Symposium, Collaboration and Communication on Saturday 5 May which is an opportunity to meet with international textile artists Joan Baxter; Anet Brusgaard, Director of the European Tapestry Forum, Denmark; Pascale De Coninck, owner of Dancing Threads Studio Cork, and curator of the Timeline project; and Line Dufour, founder and manager of Fate, Destiny and Self-Determination.

Meanwhile the Tapestry Workshop ‘WEAVING GREEN’ with Joan Baxter and John Brennan booked out in only 4 days!

The main local organiser of the Festival, Frances Crowe, is a participate on our Creative2Creative Matching programme and her matched pair, Swedish tapestry artist Margareta Sörlin will travel from Sweden to attend the Festival. This will be a great chance to connect with the wider European tapestry community.
